Condolences
Greg, Shannon, and kids Friends July 11, 2007

Our family had the privledge to be close friends with Bobby, Kathy, and the boys for nearly 10 years. We shared many moments, whether it be at the soccer field, football field, the deck in the backyard, or over many wonderful meals. Bobby was truly a light in our lives. He was a best friend, a confidant, a problem solver, a mentor to all of our four children, a role model, and a true hero. We are so grateful to have been a part of his life.

One thing that stood out about Bobby was that he always genuinely cared about his family and his friends. He radiated love. He loved his wife and kids and never failed to show it everyday. It didn't matter who was around. If he loved you, you knew it and he made sure you did.

He taught us so much about life, the Lord, faith, and service. He did it just by example and through so many conversations that we shared.

We all knew that he was proud of his military service, wore his uniform with pride, and loved what he did. He was an amazing photographer and taught us a thing or two about taking pictures.

We will truly miss you, Bobby. We love you so much. You will live in our hearts and memories forever.

Bobby was my first LPO when I reported to Combat Camera in Norfolk, and although I only knew him a short while it was immediately clear to me that Bobby was a leader, teacher and friend. His military and photographic accolades are noteworthy and endless, but to me where he really outshined everyone was his deep devotion to his family.  I don't think God can make a more unselfish man. I am humbled and lucky to have simply known him. Thank you Bobby for all you have given us. Rest in Peace brother.

Although some of us only knew Bobby a short time, and others had been his friend for years, we will all miss him. He was a true combat camera photographer, and didn’t hesitate to volunteer to take his turn on the battlefield. Although we lost someone we care deeply about, we will never forget him, and we will each try to emulate the dedication and determination he embodied. We offer our deepest condolences to his family.

I served with Bobby onboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). Bobby was the type of man who earned the respect of those which worked with him as a shipmate and a friend. He always put others before him. To the family and those who served with Bobby; My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of loss. Bobby will truly be missed. May the lord be with you in your time of grieving.
Jason Scarborough MC1 July 11, 2007

I served with Bobby aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) from July 1998 through January 2002. It was during this tour of duty we became good friends. After two deployments together one to Kosovo, and another to Afghanistan, Bobby taught me the true meaning of patriotism and loyalty.

I would like to express my deepest sorrow to the McRill family for their loss, and as his family already knows he is, was, and will always be a loyal, honest, and truly genuine man. I am truly honored to have served with him during his Naval career. Bobby you will always be missed by all of the lives you have touched.
Christopher Madden Navy Visual News Service July 11, 2007

The entire Navy Visual News team would like to extend prayers and sympathies at the loss of a great Sailor and photographer.  Bobby’s imagery played a significant role in telling the Navy’s story. He seemed to be everywhere, documenting the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, humanitarian efforts in Guatemala, the Persian Gulf, and the Horn of Africa, just to name a few.  Most importantly we send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and shipmates.

I served with Bobby on USS Rooevelt (CVN 71) from 1996-1999.  Bobby was a great shipmate and a wonderful sailor.  Everything he did he did with a positive attitude and a smile.  I will never forget him and I'll miss him always.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family.  Know that he loved you all to no end and may God bless you.

I didn't know Bobby, but I just wanted to pass along my sympathies.  I am a former Navy Journalist and reading of Bobby's passing seriously touched my heart. At quarters, I reminded my troops - all young Navy Journalists - to keep all of you and Bobby in your prayers. Please accept my deepest sympathies, and may God bless all of you.
John DeDitius LCDR July 11, 2007
I was the Officer in Charge of Combat Camera from July 2004 to October 2006.  I remember Bobby as being a wonderful family man and exceptional photographer.  He always did his very best and could be counted on to take on the most difficult assignments with great courage.  My prayers and condolences are with his family during this time of great sorrow.
